Those of you who like to watch streaming vids might want to check out the IMEEM vidding community (or whatever it is they call communities over there). A number of vidders have uploaded their vids on IMEEM - it's an easy way to watch vids (in better-than-YouTube quality) and leave feedback. Come play! And if you're a vidder and you've uploaded your vids, I'd love to hear about it. (Although please don't stop offering downloadable versions, too; I like having my favorite vids on my very own hard drive, so I can cuddle up to them on cold winter nights.)I'm there, too! As an extra special bonus, if you come early, you will almost certainly get to see the horrible results of me playing around with a place I don't understand. Possibly there will be random posts containing only punctuation! Or hideous social blunders! Or I might make something explode! Harry Potter - Lies
Lies by Molly Morrison. As his sixth year begins, it is Harry's turn to keep secrets and lie to protect them. Severitus, with a twist. PreHBP.Status: 12 chapters. Not recently updated. This story starts off like most Severitus fics excepting it's better written, then takes a decided left turn into a more psycological story about Harry has a victim of abuse and not just from the Dursleys. Snape is very in character (and in fact, still hasnt' come around in the story) while Harry is both suffering and growing. Dark is Rising recommendations
So, frozen_yoghurt told me that the current/next Studio Ghibli fim is going to be about the Chronicles of Earthsea. How cool is that? I wonder how they're going to adapt the books as they're a bit dark, but I have faith. The reason that I think it's taking so long to show up in the States has to do with Disney and their quest to find celebrity voice actors so they can flaunt the big name stars they're most definitely going to sign. And in this Earthsea vein, I felt like reccing some Dark is Rising recs, because that series needs a movie adaption. Plus I'm avoiding my backlog of Hikago recs. *eeek* Something Different by cimmerians AKA Aristide (oneshot, Will/Bran, fluffy)First Draft by rhymer23 (ficlet, Merriam, gen)Lost prince, Beloved son, New boy, and Chosen heir by rhymer23 (drabbles, Bran, gen)Falling by rhymer23 (oneshot, Will/Bran, dark)Something Different by cimmerians AKA Aristide (oneshot, Will/Bran, fluffy) Takes place when the boys are older, teenagers, and years after the events of "Silver on the Tree," Will has been avoiding going back to Wales after everyone forgets the War against the Dark until circumstances compel him to return. Yes, it's schmoopy, but well written schmoop by one of my favorite Highlander and Sentinel writers. It's a nice take on an after series wrap-up that just leaves you happy inside for the two boys. At fifteen, he was surprised to find that he dreamed about Bran quite a bit, more and more often as the year went on, and he actually wondered if this was perhaps a hint from the Old One side of things that he should follow up on, if Bran were perhaps in some sort of danger... until one night he dreamed with depthless clarity that he was back on that hillside getting lessons in Welsh pronunciation, watching Bran's bow-shaped lips and pink tongue carefully, so very carefully, and the state in which he woke from this particular dream was quite sufficient to illuminate *that* mystery, and to prove that Bran wasn't really in much danger at all, as long as Will stayed away from him.First Draft by rhymer23 (ficlet, Merriam, gen) Written for the the darkisrising100 challenge: the Book of Gramarye. This is short and sweet and most definitely giggle worthy. A lot of the drabbles on the darkisrising100 community are very well written, but I just have to get off my butt and read them. So here are four drabbles, three of them AU (each one being a different AU), and one "real."Falling by rhymer23 (oneshot, Will/Bran, dark) 'I will never forgive you', Bran says, when he finds out how much Will has hidden from him. Will raises his hand, and speaks a word... 'Anyone can fall, but some must not.' What I really love about this story is the look at Will and how imperfect people are. Imperfection is part of what makes someone human and even an Old One like Will succumbs to it. Harry Potter - Rules of the Game
Rules of the Game by margotllama. AU. Harry, on the night the first letter came, was dumped by the Dursley's in London. Now, three months later, he is found and expected to lead a normal life at Hogwarts. But, where Harry Potter is concerned, can anything be normal? Mild abuse, neglect.Status: 32 chapters. Regularly updated. I wasn't expecting anything much out of this story so I was pleasantly surprised to find it was really interesting. I think Snape and Harry's relationship in the fic, while a little bumpy, works out rather well. The fic manages to cover each of Harry's years smoothly but without the unnecessary detail most fanfic authors seem determined to provide (just because Rowling bores us to tears, doesn't mean you should, kiddies). Oddly enough, while I like the Snape and Harry interaction, what I'm really enjoying is the rewriting of the trio as Harry-Hermione-Neville. Neville makes an excellent best friend for Harry and the three of them get into less trouble which is good cause trouble always finds Harry anyways. Recs for the Month of November
Battlestar Galactica -If You're the Answer, What's the Question? by hackthis. BSG, Kara/various. Excellent, excellent Kara fic - this one really rang true for me. The scenes with Leoben totally had me choking. (In the good way! Sort of! You'll see what I mean.)Lost - Adrenaline by elise_509. Lost, Jack/Juliet, NC-17. Okay. Jack and co. have only been on the island for less than three months. Only, it feels like three years. Go figure. I'm basically of the mind that if Sawyer's not going to get his act together already, the new pretty lady doctor is worthier of Jack than Kate these days. Also, I learned from this story that the pairing is called 'Jacket' in Lost fandom. I--I'll go with that.Prison Break -Untitled Prison Break Story by eleveninches. Michael/Alex, written for meeeee. Featuring tattoos and bathroom sex and - yeah, I couldn't stop laughing for a couple minutes because I know this was a total sacrifice for her, writing porn, much less *porn in a bathroom* for a show she probably hurts herself laughing over. Read it and I think you will find that obsessive!Mahone and the freaking tattoo are really all you need to sell a story. (If you want to get into the proper Mahone/Michael mood beforehand, ELEVATOR SCENE HI.)Stargate: SG-1 - you can buy her things now but she'll never be bought by minervacat. SG-1, Daniel/Vala, NC-17. This was just so cute, and made me smile all the way through. The author totally captures their dynamic spot-on, and I think this is probably my favorite story with this pairing. Supernatural - I Put a Spell on You (Because You're Mine) by estrella30. Sam/Dean. MPREG BAYBEEEEES. Wings! Maybe some tentacles. DOES IT GET ANY BETTER, FANDOM. I think not.Desperately In Need Of A Hobby by trollprincess. *cackles* Sam starts to think something is seriously amiss when he realizes that Dean's on the laptop now more than he's ever been, and that's even when he counts the time Dean got hooked on Farscape and spent every waking moment downloading torrents like crazy. Really lovely story. I came, I read, I laughed hard and felt solidarity with them both.Your Bridge In This Storm, by dontyouwaitup. SPN, Sam/Dean, post Crossroads Blues. This story was *amazing*. There's this section in the second part (link goes to part one) that I felt tears in my eyes, and everything about this just made me so happy and breathless and gleeful that minds in our parts work like this. There's this parallel with one of her characters to Sam and Dean, and it made me all wibbly. Her characterizations were wonderful, and it's her first story in the fandom. I'm all about encouraging her to stay and write for a REALLY LONG TIME in SPN.Vid -Man in Motion, vid by renenet. LKBV for the Matrix trilogy, and it got me pondering it again a couple months ago, so I went out and bought all three at Best Buy for 5.99 each the other day. Vid Rec 'God is a DJ' by dualbunny (BSG)
Amazing Starbuck vid - the song, the cuts, the clips, everything is just perfect. I love Starbuck, so on the one hand, I'm an easy target for Starbuck vids. But I also have high expectations, especially after having seen wonderful vids like "When I paint my Masterpiece" before. 'God is a DJ' by dualbunny meets all my expectations and more. I have no idea what the "official" abbreviation for Numb3rs is, but I thought N3 would work just fine and I think I've seen it somewhere before. So, Numb3rs fic. Charlie/Colby, to be exact, my favourite pairing. This is a scene in Charlie's office which offers an interesting look into Colby's view of the world and of Charlie in particular.
